FREE Books for Birth-Five Addison County Children

10568847_10152614628977010_6295098870610518411_n

This post is for families who would like to own more books at home for their preschoolers to enjoy looking at and that they may enjoy reading to their children.

The Addison County Readers, Inc., sponsors Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Children whose are registered for this program receive an engaging book from the Imagination Library in the mail each month.

Any preschooler (birth to five years of age) living in Addison County can participate! There is no cost to the family, no strings attached, and the books are the child’s to keep.

Even if your family has more than one child under five years old, each child may be enrolled and receive a different, age-appropriate book every month. For more information about the program or to enroll online, go to www.addisoncountyreaders.org.

We Love Junebug

$10 Mini Boden sweater from Junebug!

$10 Mini Boden sweater from Junebug!

Junebug  is a funky little 501(c)3 resale store specializing in gently used, high quality maternity clothing and children’s items from size preemie/newborn to size 12/14.

Junebug’s mission is to raise the quality of life for local families, with a focus on those with young children. Junebug accomplishes this by collaborating with groups that directly support families, such as social service agencies, education organizations, and childcare providers.

Junebug has supported the MHS Read-a-thon before, but this year they are the first multi-year sponsor to increase their grant. Because of this generosity and faith in the Read-a-thon, we have a new category of support, the $300 level. This incremental support keeps our initiative improving learning opportunities in our community and helps us encourage our students to love reading.

Children can grow fast! Junebug strives to offer the variety and quality that will meet the demands of your growing family for a fraction of what you would spend otherwise. Not only will you be getting a bargain, you can feel good that you are taking steps toward a more sustainable community.

From the shop owners:

“As a charitable organization, Junebug aims to help families with young children. All of our proceeds are donated to other non-profit organizations that provide social services, education, or care to families and their young children. We also aim to develop our own programs to help strengthen the mental, emotional, and social health of families with young children.”

Thank you, Maria Graham, and the entire Junebug team!

We Love Lang McLaughry Real Estate

Among our new sponsors this year is Lang McLaughry Real Estate (LMRE)!

Working in the Vermont and New Hampshire markets, LMRE offers buyers and sellers over 60 years of experience and service in helping individuals and families with their real estate needs including the purchase and sale of homes, land, luxury properties, rentals and commercial listings.

LMRE talks openly about “retaining allegiance to the hometown moral compass through 16 locally-rooted offices.” We think their generous support of the MHS Read-a-thon is a terrific example of literally putting your money where your mouth is. LMRE supports local public education through their sponsorship of $250 that helps us keep 100% of the money students raise in mini-grants to their own classrooms.

Check out our friends at LMRE . . . they have a wonderful website detailing their mission, their agents and offices, as well as a fun blog with information on open houses, home organization tips, and more: http://www.lmsre.com

Thank you, LMRE!

We Love the National Bank of Middlebury

We have several new sponsors this year, and we are so excited to welcome the National Bank of Middlebury to the Read-a-thon family of supporters!

These words from president Ken Perine make us smile:

“In an age of mergers and corporate takeovers, National Bank of Middlebury remains an independent, local institution. We invite you to experience the difference of a great community bank. We’re your neighbors. We live, work and raise our families here in the communities we serve. Come in and see us, or bank with us online 24/7. It will be our privilege to serve you.”

Local, community, families.

We are so grateful to NBMVT for its commitment to support the Read-a-thon and our students’ educational initiatives. It’s inspiring to have a partner in our community bank.

If you’ve never checked them out, give them a look! They have something for everyone’s financial picture, and the employees are tremendously helpful and kind.

Thank you, NBMVT!
